Thank you for your response! I do appreciate what have been shared.
But from my experience, most organizations that serve the public or certain communities do publicly share a more comprehensive strategic plan detailing their strategic goals and how they plan to accomplish those goals. They sometimes hold public workshops and/or regular reports from the beginning of the planning to end of implementation so they can solicit public feedback from affected communities that their strategic goals and actions will and do best serve the current and long-term needs of the communities. See Wikimedia 2030 Movement Strategy Recommendations in English as one example.
OTW is run by fans for fans and so I hope for similar transparency with clearer goals and actions, something like the OTW strategic roadmap from 2012, reports from 2012-2014 and plan from 2016–2019 as starting points.
As is, I have a few concerns for OTW's strategic goals. The Vision Statement outlined a goal to diversify spaces, but from this plan, it seems like the only actions are Diversity Consultant Research Officer, Recruitment and Volunteer Coalitions which for me seems limited? This worries me that OTW does not have the commitments, priorities or comprehensive strategies for the next three years to address racism currently happening in its workplace and spaces.
Will OTW be revisiting and updating this strategic plan? Will progress of the actions be shared? How is OTW planning to strategically address racism currently happening in its workplace and spaces in the immediate future and in the next three years beside the Diversity Consultant Research Officer, Recruitment and Volunteer Coalitions?
Thank you for your comment and for the sources you shared. We are already organizing ideas and suggestions for the next strategic cycle and this will be helpful for our research; Wikimedia is a much larger staffed organization than ourselves, but their plan style is a great model to work towards as we grow. For this plan, this is the level of information that's been determined we should share with the public and we chose this format due to prior and current feedback for readability. For the Diversifying Spaces theme, we did our best to thread this throughout the plan as it is such a critical matter. Aspects of our Internal Sustainability and AO3 Development sections, such as volunteer retention and an internationally-accessible interface, are key aspects of how we hope to improve diverse spaces in the OTW over the course of this plan and in the immediate short term. More long term, the hired Diversity Consultant will have more proposals for actions and changes that the Organization will take. We determined that the DCRO/DC should be prioritized to ensure that we take the most effective approach supported by expert opinion and further community input as we delve deeper into this issue. In the upcoming years we will renew the strategic planning cycle again, wherein we gather community ideas and feedback and draft a new vision statement and plan.
It’s worth pointing out that our strategic plan can be updated depending on the circumstances of the organization and we hope to share our progress on the goals regularly. We look forward to your input during that process and encourage you to get involved with the OTW ; we greatly appreciate the thoroughness and insight of your comment!
