Summary
Once upon a time, it is said, dragons were creatures of magnificence and victory and prosperity, creatures whose arrival could have a kingdom celebrating for weeks on end. But after a thousand years of disasters and legends shrouded in mist, dragons have become little more than specters of death, and those unlucky enough to find themselves living in one's shadow would do almost anything to step out into the sun. Even if it meant sacrificing one of their own.
It is fate that Aether and Lumine, twins marked by calamity, are the first to be captured when a dragon descends upon their village and demands a bride. It is chance that Aether is chosen over Lumine when the sacrifice finally arrives. Resigned to a short world of pain before violent death, Aether’s only comfort is that Lumine might still have a chance to safely live on without him.
Then he actually meets the dragon, with its warm scales and amber eyes. And as the seasons turn and change, he finds himself daring to hope for just a little more after all…

If you must go down, do not let down your guard and fall into any mysterious tunnels leading to the heart of the world. Aether rips his sword out, pushing a wailing Paimon back and readying for a counterattack. It had worked on the fellflower Albedo, right? Sort of? At least it had forced the creature to reveal itself. But instead—
The imposter crumples to the ground. Soundless. Eyes wide and unseeing.
A faintly glowing crimson drips damningly down Aether’s blade.
Aether is no stranger to being used, whether as an Honorary Knight, experiment, or pawn. He's less familiar with getting his hands this dirty in the process, but that doesn't mean he needs the dozens of others reaching out, desperate to clean them... right?

White-hot pain lances though Aether's head, taking nearly all his vision with it, as if his body is punishing him for continuing to refuse Childe’s control. The moment his agony-fuzzed thoughts coalesce once more, Aether again curses his disgustingly weak body. A kinder ending… Paimon had been a liar to the very end, it seems.
In another timeline, the world ends, and Aether is tossed into a Teyvat that's peaceful and friendly and wrong, wrong, wrong. If only someone would explain why he keeps getting called a "sub."

The one-shot series Sweater Weather, revised and polished as a chapter fic! Posting on Fridays!
This fic takes place after the Hosu arc and skips straight to the kids moving into the dorm. This is my fun little interim AU wherein the kids get to deal with their emotional baggage and interpersonal drama without having to actively fight for their lives, at least for a little while. Sweater Weather is 100% a self indulgent comfort fic, diving right into all the classic tropes of mutual pining and hurt/comfort. It started off as a series of one-shots, but as the chapters go it becomes more detailed and cohesive. I hope it makes you feel cozy!
